Egypt, news standard for care labeling
Cairo adoptes the international code of labelling using symbols
The Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (EOS) announced that according to the Ministerial Decree no. 423/2005 all producers and importers of textile products should comply with ES 1405/2014 “Care Labeling Code Using Symbols”. This standard, which will replace the 2008 previous edition, will come into force six months after the date of adoption.
All textile products, consequently, must be provided with a label with written information on the measures of regular cleaning and care that should be taken to maintain or restore the functional characteristics of the products themselves.
The standard provides for the use of care symbols related to the most common household processes, including washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and specialized care for textile processors when wet and dry cleaning. The standard doesn’t take industrial washing symbols into consideration.
In order to harmonize with the international system of care labeling, the Egyptian standard 1405/2014 follows the ISO 3758:2012 “Textiles – Care Labelling Code Using Symbols”.
