Turkey, new controls on shoes

Chemicals involved are Chromium VI and Dioctyltin (DOT)

A new specific control on footwear products announced with internal memo by the Turkish Ministry of Economy was officially launched on July 10th. This control concerns in particular the restricted contents of Chromium VI and Diotyltol.

The Ministry had already performed an analogous control on Phthalates in footwear before custom clearance. On June 29, with a memo of the Product Safety and Surveillance Audit Department, it then announced a new additional control.

According to the Ministry’s internal memo, footwear products will be subjected to control for below restrictions while at the custom stage.

- Cr VI (Chromium VI): articles containing leather parts in contact with skin cannot be placed into the market where any of those leather parts contains Chromium VI in concentration to or greater than 3 mg/kg.

- DOT (Dioctyltin): Footwear or parts of footwear intended to come into contact with skin should not have DOT concentration higher than 0.1% by weight of Tin.
